Derek Carr has no plans to change the Feb. 15 deadline in his contract that triggers $40.4 million in future guaranteed money to help facilitate a trade from Las Vegas.

"I don't think that would be best for me," Carr told the Associated Press on Thursday from the Pro Bowl Games.

On February 15, all of the $40.4 million in injury guarantees will be fully guaranteed. Since the date is a month before the start of the New League Year and free agency, it is up to the Raiders to decide.

Can they agree on a trade before the deadline? Do they get rid of Carr before the deadline to get out of those promises? Do they let the date pass so that they can figure it out later?

The deadline makes trades harder. Carr, who has a no-trade clause, revealed that Vegas has not authorised the QB's representatives to communicate to other clubs, which would be essential if a trade partner wanted to renegotiate his contract.

Carr could refuse all trades to force free agency. Since any trade agreement can't be finalised until March 15, the Raiders would have to trust any partner not to back out. Carr not extending the trigger date is crucial for that reason.

Cutting Carr would get rid of the big guarantees, but Vegas wouldn't get anything back for the QB leaving.

He is taking a $40 million risk by squatting on his rights to see what will happen in the future.

Carr told Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network that he is still thinking about all the possible outcomes.

"I'm just being patient," he said. "I'm going to take care of myself. I'll make the best decision for my family. I don't care about how it looks or anything else like that. I can choose this or that. Sometimes it's fun to be able to do whatever you want."

Right now, he's just having a good time at the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas, where he dominated Thursday night.Carr told Wolfe about his future, "We have choices and decisions to make." "It really is an exciting time.

But I get to play for the Raiders one more time, and I'm excited to do so for our fans and to say goodbye in our stadium. I didn't know when I'd be back in the stadium again, but the fourth Pro Bowl was a pretty good time."
