OpenAI Unveils GPT-4: The Latest Breakthrough In Large Language Model Technology

OpenAI, the developers of ChatGPT, have released a new AI model called GPT-4, which allows for input in both text and image form, and promises more detailed answers.

The GPT-4 AI model has been embedded in a number of apps, including Duolingo and Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, and is available via the $20 a month paid version of ChatGPT.

According to OpenAI, GPT-4 has demonstrated human-level performance on academic and professional examinations such as the US bar and SAT school tests.

GPT-4 has encountered some pitfalls, however, including ‘hallucinations’, context limits, and an inability to learn from experience. A spokesperson has warned that care should be taken when using the outputs of GPT-4, particularly in contexts where reliability is important.

Despite these issues, GPT-4 has undergone stress tests and OpenAI has set out possible risks around bias, disinformation, privacy and cyber security.

GPT-4 is now embedded into Microsoft’s Bing chatbot, and Microsoft is expected to roll-out further integrations into consumer products in the following days.

OpenAI’s aim with the image input feature of GPT-4 is to compete with Google’s search engine, which includes search using images but is yet to have answer-giving capabilities.
