In a statement released Thursday, a team representative said, "The club is looking into the situation and won't say anything else at this time."

The warrant says that on January 21, Mixon pointed a gun at a person and said that person should be "popped in the face."

The warrant says the incident happened at the corner of Walnut Street and East Third Street in downtown Cincinnati, one day before the Bengals beat the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.

Mixon's agent, Peter Schaffer, told ESPN in a statement that he thinks the charges will be dropped by Hamilton County officials on Friday morning because they acted too quickly.

Schaffer said, "I really think that the police have an obligation to do their job before they file charges, because they can hurt the person's reputation."

Mixon was charged with misdemeanour assault in 2014 because he had punched a woman. Mixon was a running back for the University of Oklahoma at the time.

He said he was called a racial slur, which made him say something against gay people before the attack. Mixon got a year of probation and a one-year suspension as part of a plea deal.

The Bengals picked Mixon in the second round of the NFL draught in 2017. In 2020, he signed a $48 million, four-year contract extension and was named to the Pro Bowl.
